Happy wedding planning almost-newlywed! I hope you’re cherishing this special, albeit stressful, chapter in your life. I may be a tad biased, but your wedding hair and makeup is pretty important when it comes to your wedding day. Your favorite wedding picture is probably not going to be one of the cake or the favors. It’s going to be of you and your new spouse. What key component is in pictures that everyone sees first? Your hair and makeup. Keep reading to save yourself from cringing at your wedding photos on your anniversary every year.
You Wait Too Long to Book Your Beauty Artists
I don’t know who said that you don’t need to book your wedding hair and makeup until 3 months before your wedding but they deserve jail time. Seriously. Think about it. Your wedding hair stylist can only be in one place at a time. I recommend locking in your wedding hair and makeup 9 months out from your wedding date. It may sound silly but the good ones go fast.
You Don’t Follow the Proper Steps to Prep Your Hair and Skin
You wouldn’t paint a wall without wiping it down or taping it off, right? Why. treat your hair and skin any different? Proper hair and skin prep is crucial to looking and feeling your best on your wedding day. I always feel better with clean hair, anyways. Many artists provide their bridal clients with some type of guide. Don’t neglect this step.
You Choose Your Artists Based on Price Only
If you do this, you also deserve jail time. I promise that there are great, reputable, and reliable vendors out there in your price range. You just have to do your research. If your heart is set on a stylist that is out of your price range, see if there is anywhere in your wedding budget that can be cut back in order to get the stylists that you really want. Who needs drink stirs, anyways? Check out my post on how to choose the right wedding hair stylist here.
You Don’t Voice Your Concern During Your Preview Appointments
You won’t hurt our feelings. We’re here for you and to make sure that you look and feel your best. Your hair and makeup are pretty important for your wedding. Ultimately, we want you to be happy. You don’t like the way that your face framing its sitting? No problem! Let us make it right. We can tell if you’re unhappy with something, btw.
You Choose to DIY it Yourself
Please don’t. I’m going to be honest with you here. I’m a professional HMUA and I didn’t even DIY my wedding hair and makeup. And you shouldn’t either. If you’re anything like me, your wedding day will be the one when your hair and makeup refuse to cooperate. Your eyeliner wings will be so big that you’ll be flying down the aisle instead of walking. It’s also pretty doggone hard to see the back of your own head.
You Have One Artist Do Both Hair and Makeup
Unless you’re having an elopement, this is not a good idea. I can comfortably style six or more people on my own for a wedding. There’s no feasible way for me to do hair and makeup on six or more people without self combusting. We will have to start getting ready you at three am for that to be logistically possible. Also, ask any HMUA. We always prefer one over the other and I prefer hair.
You Don’t Have Realistic Expectations
When someone shows me an AI inspiration picture, I die a little inside. She’s not real, babe. Ideally, you should be looking for pictures that have similar color, length, and texture. Density can be addressed though. We offer clip-in extension rentals as an add on option for all of our brides. Another thing, a video is more preferable than a still image. Yeah, the back might be pretty, but what does it look like from the front?
There’s a lot that can go wrong on a wedding day but your hair and makeup don’t have to be one of those things. Are you still searching for the perfect wedding hair stylist for you?
