There are dozens of dozens of hundreds of articles out there telling you how to have healthy hair. I’ve yet to come across one that is directed towards wedding hair specifically. So that’s what you’re getting now! Everyone wants gorgeous hair for their wedding, right? Keep reading to find out how, and I promise that there’s no egg and mayonnaise hair mask in sight, ew.
Avoid “Home Remedies”
There are so many things that can go wrong with a home remedy hair fix. Do you remember when it was a thing to put toothpaste and baking soda on a zit? I did that and it gave me a chemical burn which was way worse than the bump itself. I’m also sure that you have seen recipes along the lines of yogurt, banana, honey, etc. These things will be way more beneficial for your hair if you just eat them. Also, do not, I repeat, DO NOT out any kind of kitchen oil, ie avocado, coconut, olive, etc, on your hair. The molecules are not small enough to penetrate the cuticle to do any good. If you use any type of heat tool after using kitchen oil, you’re frying your hair, literally. That is quite the opposite of having healthy hair.
Avoid Heat Damage
I know that some of you out there can’t live without your flat iron and blow dryer. I get it. But if you don’t damage your hair with excessive heat, then you won’t have to deal with the results of too much heat. Don’t be afraid to try some heatless styles. Pro tip: Try them when you don’t have any plans for the day because we have all seen the fail videos, lol. From the robe belt, to socks, and even leggings, there’s a heatless style out there for you. If you must use heat on your hair, try to go as long as you can between wash days. Dry shampoo is a lifesaver.
Don’t Wear the Same Style Everyday
In middle school and even through high school, I was a frequent ponytail wearer. While there’s nothing wrong with ponytails overall, having it in the same place everyday, all the time is wrong. You can and will get a ton of breakage right where you out your ponytail. Switch up your hairstyle. Try a braid. Try some heatless curls. Opting for a ponytail in a different spot can even help.
Things to Do for Healthy Hair for Your Wedding Day
Invest in Quality Products
If you don’t already use salon quality products, now is the time to start. I’m not bashing on drugstore by any means. If it works for you then that’s great! For many people drugstore products can leave a residue or film over the hair preventing any hydrating or protective products from penetrating the cuticle on the hair. Salon Quality products don’t leave a filmy situation on your hair. They are able to nourish your hair and provide the benefits that drugstore products often can’t.
Start Taking Vitamins
If you’re anything like me, then there are definitely some deficits in your diet. Vitamins are a great way to fill in those gaps to ensure healthy hair for your wedding day. Keep in mind that this is not going to be a quick fix. It’s going to take time and commitment but it is 100% worth it.
Be Gentle
Please, please, please don’t go ripping through your hair with your brush. It breaks my heart every time I see, and hear it. That sound you hear? It’s your hair breaking off. Terrifying. Start from the bottom and work your way up towards your scalp. You will begin to notice a lot less hair caught in your brush.
Overall, getting healthy hair is a process but who doesn’t want to look great on their wedding day? Speaking of, get a jump start on your wedding hair by booking early, at least 9 months before your big day
